The Legend of Youngs Corner III

PART III
Burial Grounds

So far we’ve heard the story of my Aunt who found the 3 cabins 30 years ago. An old woman came out screaming holding a shotgun. Was she a true witch? We’ve also heard the ghost story of my Mother’s childhood. Occurring not a year after her sister had discovered the 3 cabins and awakened the old woman. The ghost was on old man, dressed almost as a wizard. And finally, in my generation, we have the story of the old woman revived. She has lived past her years and has returned to haunt my family. She walked her dog along the forest every week, but then one day she came to our house and stared wide-eyed into our glass door directly at my Mother and I with an unsightly smile. Was there a message? And now the legend continues...

1996

Two years have passed since that awful day when the old woman came to our door. Just the thought of that day sends shivers down my back. I left the room for one second, came back, and there she was! Her face, inches from the glass, held this mysterious smile. Why that day? Was it important for her? Why our house? Why the smile? Didn’t she know it would scare us beyond belief by just appearing like that? I wondered about that day but was also so terrified of it.

If you were facing my house, my room is located at the right corner, and it faces Youngs Corner Rd. Having settled in our new home, I began exploring the surroundings. On the outside lawn, about 20 feet to the right of my room, I found a small patch of land surrounded by four large pine trees. In front of each tree was a tall, stone pillar - marking off a perfect rectangle shape. One had a ring nailed into the side, another had a chain through a hole near the top of the pillar. I soon realized, this patch of land had been sectioned off at one time. It was once guarded by a gate formed by the four pillars with a chain passing through all of them. How long ago was it built? How long had it been in use? A quick look down was all I needed to answer my question.
